Dance, dance, dance

This summer Eliza took her first dance class and so we invested in a leotard and ballet shoes (not really a good investment since they are already too small, but such is life).  She does love them – she even slept in the ballet shoes the first night.  Staged photographs of Eliza are becoming a bit more difficult now as she does more hamming for the camera than ever before, as you’ll see below.

As always, candids are the way to go:

And speaking of dance, she took the class with her gymnastics teacher, Miss Vanessa – who forgot to mention that curtain rods were not the same as the parallel bars:

Well, here we go…

as of today, I’m no longer working as a lawyer.  I’ve decided to focus entirely on my fine art photography and custom fine art printing businesses.  Dad/photographer/printer/attorney just got a little simpler to say.  Wish me luck!

In somewhat related news, I have a two-person show coming up on July 15th at VoxPhotographs in Portland, Maine (the opening is July 15th, that is).  Check out my photography blog for more information…

My work at Peopleplace Auction

A week from today – next Sunday, June 27 from 4-7 – Peopleplace will be having a silent auction at Brevetto in Camden to raise money.  For those of you who don’t know, Peopleplace is my daughter Eliza’s wonderful cooperative preschool.  You can see more details at the Peopleplace website, including how and where to buy tickets as well as a preview of some of the available items.  Tasty food, great items to buy, worth organization – hard to beat for a Sunday afternoon.  I’ll be at the auction myself and I also donated a framed photograph to the auction (the one included below).  Hope to see you there!

Skunk

One of the big focuses of Eliza’s pre-school is storytelling.  On her last day of school, all of the parents were invited to watch each of the kids, with the help of their friends, act out a story that they wrote during the school year.  Eliza’s selected story was focused on Brutus being sprayed by a skunk (as apparently were almost all of her stories this year), but they put this other story into a book and, well, it makes me laugh.

Monkey Bars video

As some of you may know, Eliza has been obsessed with conquering the monkey bars.  A playground without a set of monkey bars just isn’t worth a stop.  Every trip to the playground usually involves trying the monkey bars over and over again until she can no longer hold on and she is starting to cry from exhaustion/pain.  So I’m pleased to report that in Freeport this last weekend she had her biggest monkey bar success – one of the successful runs is captured on the video linked below.  I’m trying not to think about what it means for the next 15 years of my life that she continued to do the monkey bars until the pain from the popped blisters on her hands made her stop.

I can’t seem to make the video smaller so I’ve had to upload it to my website and just link to it instead of being able to embed it here – here’s the link and sorry for the big download (hope it works!):

Memorial Day Extravaganza…

Lots of stuff in this update – wonderful weather this Memorial Day weekend and we enjoyed a camping trip down on Wolfe’s Neck near Freeport.  Here are Eliza and Becky goofing around the campsite:

We also checked out the alewife run at Damariscotta Mills fish ladder – the run is nearing its end put it is a pretty amazing sight to see the alewives trying to return to their home lake to spawn.  Actually alewife pictures coming up later on my photography blog, but here is Eliza being ‘attacked’ by a giant osprey like those that are feeding on the poor alewives.

Springtime!

Actually, it felt more like summer today, but it would be foolish to complain about warm weather as a Mainer.  The warm weather does, of course, result in lots of outside play (and check out that spring green of the grass!).

First, a little bit of ‘racquet’ as Eliza begins her training regimen:

and then some bicycle kicks:

and some crunches:

thinking about the next move:

Ah, yes, the hummingbird feeder:

Brutus abides…
