Confused? Here is everything else

Just in case you weren’t looking for pictures of my family, here are some of the other things that I have going on:

My photography business – Jim Nickelson Photography

My fine art custom printing business - Nickelson Editions

My new company (with Heather Frederick) that launches October 1st, 201o – FocusMaine.com

I’m very excited about all of these, of course, but in particular FocusMaine.com as creating a new business like this is very exciting.  Here’s a print ad we have running in a few magazines leading up to our launch…

We are going to have some amazing photographs available starting October 1st, so if you at all interested you can sign up and receive an e-mail whenever we have a new limited edition available…

Photos BY Eliza

Eliza appears to have a relatively wide range of genres in which she likes to work.  Self-portraits:

I actually quite like the one of the toes.  Also animal portraits…

and a little candid portrait photography

Grandma Bert visit

We had a visit from Grandma Bert last week (my Mom), a 6 day trip by Becky for her sales meeting, and a 9 month old golden retriever that came in and out of our life during the week (long story).  Sadly, I didn’t end up with pictures of much of this.  But here goes anyway…

First, Eliza showing off some sort of ballet move:

And Grandma Bert and Eliza working on her new puzzle books:

One of our big adventures was checking out the new Children’s Garden at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, which are pretty cool.  Here is Eliza in a, um, pose:

There is a cool maze you can walk on – luckily, we have no photos of me walking on it:

I love this photo – Eliza is playing with another girl in one of the little houses at the gardens

Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man, would be proud:

Lobster traps to throw…

and the bear from Blueberries for Sal:

Another adventure during the week was going up to Belfast to have a picnic with Lindy…

and yes, she ate the whole sandwich:

Trip to Cape Cod

After my opening, we went down to the Cape to visit with Becky’s family – we spent most of our time with Jeff & Theda and their kids Steven & Matthew.  Besides the obvious perk of playing with kids, Eliza loved, I mean loved, the various vehicles on their property.  Many, many hours were spent driving in circles around the yard.

And it wouldn’t be a trip to the Cape with a trip to the beach (except for all of those Thanksgiving trips we take):

The sea was angry that day…

well, not really – it was quite lovely.  When Uncle Arte and Cynthia came up to visit earlier in July, we were lucky enough to be able to go out and the lobster boat owned by my in-laws.  Here are Arte and Cynthia enjoying the view:

Little did they know who was captaining the boat, though:

She actually is remarkably calm in the captain’s chair – Cob actually lets her guide the boat for a while on these journeys (while remaining nearby, of course).  I like the think that if one day she captains a lobster boat she’ll revive the name of this boat, appropriately named the Svenska Flicka (Swedish Girl).

Dance, dance, dance

This summer Eliza took her first dance class and so we invested in a leotard and ballet shoes (not really a good investment since they are already too small, but such is life).  She does love them – she even slept in the ballet shoes the first night.  Staged photographs of Eliza are becoming a bit more difficult now as she does more hamming for the camera than ever before, as you’ll see below.

As always, candids are the way to go:

And speaking of dance, she took the class with her gymnastics teacher, Miss Vanessa – who forgot to mention that curtain rods were not the same as the parallel bars:

Well, here we go…

as of today, I’m no longer working as a lawyer.  I’ve decided to focus entirely on my fine art photography and custom fine art printing businesses.  Dad/photographer/printer/attorney just got a little simpler to say.  Wish me luck!

In somewhat related news, I have a two-person show coming up on July 15th at VoxPhotographs in Portland, Maine (the opening is July 15th, that is).  Check out my photography blog for more information…

My work at Peopleplace Auction

A week from today – next Sunday, June 27 from 4-7 – Peopleplace will be having a silent auction at Brevetto in Camden to raise money.  For those of you who don’t know, Peopleplace is my daughter Eliza’s wonderful cooperative preschool.  You can see more details at the Peopleplace website, including how and where to buy tickets as well as a preview of some of the available items.  Tasty food, great items to buy, worth organization – hard to beat for a Sunday afternoon.  I’ll be at the auction myself and I also donated a framed photograph to the auction (the one included below).  Hope to see you there!

Skunk

One of the big focuses of Eliza’s pre-school is storytelling.  On her last day of school, all of the parents were invited to watch each of the kids, with the help of their friends, act out a story that they wrote during the school year.  Eliza’s selected story was focused on Brutus being sprayed by a skunk (as apparently were almost all of her stories this year), but they put this other story into a book and, well, it makes me laugh.
